After 6 years of research, APIVITA combines the wonderful world of the bee and the sea of the Mediterranean in a unique complex, the 3D PRO-ALGAE to offer with a great global innovation, protection and preservation of the youthfulness of the skin under the sun.

This innovative 3D PRO-ALGAE® complex combines the photoprotective properties of propolis and a powerful Mediterranean microalgae, Nannochloropsis Gaditana. It acts as an architect of the skin since it protects and maintains its three-dimensional structure under the sun, enhancing its density and elasticity, offering hydration and protection from photoaging, the No. 1 cause of premature aging.

The new innovative 3D PRO-ALGAE® complex also hides state-of-the-art technology developed on the occasion of a very important European research project (Marie Curie Actions) that APIVITA has been participating in since 2012, ALGAECOM, on " Exploitation of microalgae diversity for the development of novel high added-value cosmeceuticals ". This consortium was an initiative of scientists from APIVITA and the Agricultural University of Athens, with an important academic collaborator, the National Research Center of France (CNRS) and the Spanish innovative company for research and production of microalgae, Fitoplancton Marino.

During the ALGAECOM program, the biochemistry laboratory of APIVITA, studied the bioactivity and effectiveness of 3 different Mediterranean microalgae in 100 different skin genes, studying important biochemical pathways of human skin under stress conditions similar to those created during exposure to the sun. This study highlighted the microalgae Nannochloropsis Gaditana, which in Greece is found mainly in the seas of Crete, as a versatile ingredient with significant cosmetic effects on the skin. More specifically, this microalga upregulates the expression of fibrillin, a glycoprotein that is necessary for the formation of skin elastic fibers, which in turn maintain the 3D structure of the skin, ie a firm and elastic skin. Studies in human skin cells have also shown that it activates water exchange channels, aquaporins, which are very important for hydrating the skin and their activity is weakened by sun exposure.

The results of the study were impressive, and have already been published in 3 international scientific journals and presented at international scientific conferences. In addition, the research conducted at the biochemical laboratory of APIVITA continues with the active research participation of the company in the program HORIZON 2020 - ALGAE4AB aiming at the exploration of new species of microalgae in the Mediterranean region.

APIVITA's Research and Development Division, based on the results of the ALGAECOM research project, studied the synergistic action of the microalgae Nannochloropsis Gaditana and the innovative propolis extract and developed a complex with maximum effective efficacy against photoaging that contributed to it. In the clinical in vivo study conducted in women with particularly demanding photo-aged skin, the results were more than impressive as 90% of women saw their skin fuller and firmer, while 95% saw more hydrated and elastic.

The new innovative complex thereof, 3D PRO-ALGAE® was incorporated in the sunscreen face APIVITA SUNCARE. All products in the series are hypoallergenic and very resistant to water, while they do not contain silicone and alcohol.
