Is my skin sensitive?

How do we identify sensitive skin? Sensitive skin is more of a condition than an actual skin type! It is characterized by an inappropriate reaction - such as prickling, burning or tingling sensation (possibly pain), when confronted with elements that are not considered as irritants. Sensitive or intolerant skin may have some visible characteristics such as being thin and brittle, dry and red.  Often though it is only felt by the person who actually feels the discomfort, i.e. burning, itching, stinging, tightness sensation without any visible signs.

Which factors contribute to the skin's sensitivity?

Weather conditions (sun, wind, cold, heat), air pollution, air conditioning, poolwater, chemicals, preservatives in cosmetics, some cosmetic ingredients, inappropriate cleansing and skin care, soap, even bathtub water but also hormonal or psychological factors may contribute to the skin’s sensitivity.

Tips for the treatment of sensitive skin

Therefore, sensitive skin requires specialized care! Discover some useful tips to help soothe already irritated skin:

• Take short showers and baths, with lukewarm water so as not to aggravate the itching sensation.

• Dry your skin by patting gently (avoid rubbing with a towel, which can reactivate the itching and burning sensation).

• Apply the cream 1-2 times per day after the shower.  In periods of flare- ups, repeat during the day as often as needed.

• Prefer to use the cream or the oil on slightly dumb skin, to achieve better application and absorbing.
