If you were told that a resin collected by bees from the buds of young flowers and plants and which they use to protect their hive from external attacks and intruders and also to sterilize the inside of the hive, would have almost “miraculous” antioxidant, photo protective and anti-ageing properties, what would you think?

Propolis, for which reference is made, was for the general public the most unknown of bee products. And yet for the “insiders” propolis was always considered valuable, and there are even many different collecting methods. And this because since the ancient times, propolis was a famous ingredient used for pharmaceutical, medical and nutritional purposes from the ancient Greek physicians, who followed the treatment methods of Hippocrates, the Father of Medicine.

The word propolis comes from the Greek words “pro” and “polis”, meaning “before the city” and stating its protective properties. Due to its rich composition, it is considered one of the most powerful natural substances, with many beneficial properties for health and beauty. Propolis has antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and antiseptic properties, and is also known as the “antibiotic of nature”.

And in the sunscreen protection… “bees are after us”

As a pioneer in the use of propolis in cosmetic products (it was the first company that incorporated propolis in its products since 1979, when was created for the first time the famous and miraculous black soap of propolis), APIVITA has developed over the last years an innovative method of extracting the active ingredients of propolis, which reinforces their stability. The scientific team of APIVITA managed, using a method that consumes minimum power and almost zero waste, to isolate from propolis the constituents that are responsible for its antioxidant, photoprotective and anti-ageing action.

For the first time, the active ingredients of propolis are locked in cyclodextrin in order to achieve maximum and stable concentration of flavonoids and polyphenols in the final product. This extract protects the skin from photo-aging -the most important cause of premature ageing- by increasing the vitality of the cells up to 40% and protecting the cells from free radicals up to 20%. The patented propolis extract (patent number 1007520) is incorporated by APIVITA in the sunscreen series APIVITA SUNCARE creating a second body’s defense mechanism against the harmful effects of solar radiation.

Applied Innovation is awarded

In November 2013, the innovative extraction method of propolis was awarded by the Hellenic Federation of Enterprises, in a competition organized jointly with Eurobank. The competition for Applied Research and Innovation “Greece Innovates” takes place every two years, in order to highlight the wide spectrum of research in the country, to mobilize the creative forces and to attract private capital for investment, serving this way as the bridge between dynamic entrepreneurship, finance and innovative scientific research. APIVITA was awarded for “the innovative extraction method of Greek propolis in order to produce high value raw material with antioxidant and photoprotective action”.

For APIVITA this award is a great honor as the scientific consistency, scientific method, scientific ethics and discipline are recognized in a field of commercial activity such as this of natural products and in particular of natural cosmetics .

But the awards for the sunscreen series APIVITA SUNCARE don’t stop here! A few months later, APIVITA SUNCARE was awarded with the Distinction “Innovative Product” at the “Made in Greece Awards” organized by the Greek Marketing Academy.

Thus, APIVITA SUNCARE line offers sunscreen protection with the most natural way and innovation applied in practice: because it is in our nature!
