In true and full alignment with our philosophy and values, ΑPIVITA creates products that respect society and the environment. From our establishment in 1979, we chose not to test the safety, efficacy or environmental impact of our products and raw materials on animals. Instead, we opted to fully test our products using other valid alternative methods.

Later developments in legislation validated our value and philosophy driven approach to animal testing. With Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009 on cosmetic products, the European Union banned animal testing in cosmetics. As a result, starting on July 11, 2013, no cosmetic products marketed in the European market (and fortunately in many other countries that harmonized their legislation with the European regulation) can be tested on animals. In addition, while not officially prohibiting animal testing, many other countries like the US and Hong Kong no longer require animal testing on cosmetic products.

In addition, commission regulation (EU) No 655/2013 of 10 July 2013 laid down common criteria for the justification of claims used in relation to cosmetic products. It therefore prohibits the communication of benefits which are nevertheless required for compliance with minimum legal requirements so as to avoid misleading consumers. In this context, advertising a product as cruelty free, against animal testing etc. would contravene the precepts of the regulation.

In addition, since the ban on animal testing is defined by legislation, a control mechanism is in place and companies may be required to attest to their compliance with the laws upon request by the competent authorities. Certifications by independent organizations and structures are not necessary or mandatory. Based on all the above, APIVITA ensures its compliance with EU regulations, developing products that are not tested on animals though it does not communicate this fact as a benefit.

Our sources of inspiration have remained the same ever since APIVITA was set up: the honeybee society, the uniqueness of Greek nature and Hippocrates, the father of Medicine.
